Tahquamenon Falls Winter Campout Photos 1

Ever wondered what it's like camping in the winter? What you'd do?

Want to try it? You can.  Our 3rd annual January Freezeout event is right around the corner – January 20-22. A few spots remain.

Here's a recap of one of our days at last year's winter campout at Tahquamenon Falls in Michigan's Upper Peninsula

Man, it's beautiful up here. Jaw-dropping, stop and catch your breath beautiful.

On Day 2 of our 2nd annual winter campout, our attendees ranged across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Some to a dog sled race up the road a piece. Most others, to the trails for snowshoeing and exploring.

The weather was perfect. The temps climbed to about 32 F, the sun came out just after noon and a light feathery snow dropped a half inch of fresh snow in the evening.

There were great group dinners, lots of late night fun around the campfire and new friendships made. But mostly, it was just playing in the snow.

Once again, the awesome folks from Tahquamenon Falls State Park and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources were so good to us, plowing our spots, leading us on hikes, lending us snowshoes and more. I camp all over North America and I have never seen such a well-run, hospitable campground. This place, winter, summer, spring and fall, is our absolute favorite.

As folks make their goodbyes today and start heading home, many made their reservations for the 2017 event.

New in 2017 will be dog sled rides – right in the park near the campground.

Here are the photos of how beautiful it is ip there:
