RV Sidetrip: Noah's Ark in Williamstown, KY 1

The first thing you notice about the attraction known as the Ark Encounter is that it is huge – a full-size Noah’s Ark, built according to the dimensions given in the Bible. Spanning 510 feet long, 85 feet wide, and 51 feet high, it is in it’s own right a modern engineering marvel that amazes visitors young and old.

It is, in fact, the largest timber frame structure in the world, built from standing dead timber, in part by skilled Amish craftsmen. Inside are three decks of crammed with exhibits aimed at helping visitors experience what life may have been like for Noah and his family.

Here's a short video of our encounter with the Ark Encounter…

The attraction is decidedly evangelical Christian in tone. But even if you are not a believer, we think you’ll find it very interesting. Visitors enter on the ground level and move between decks on ramps constructed through the center of the ark. Bays on the first deck contain models of some animals that the group behind this attraction believes were on the ark. There are also movies and various artifacts.

Last year, over 1 million tourists visited the attraction. The Ark Encounter is situated just off I-75 in Williamstown, Kentucky, halfway between Cincinnati and Lexington. The parking lot has plenty of room for RVs of all sizes and a free shuttle bus takes you to and from the ark, which is about a mile away.
