What are your Roadtreking holiday plans?
As Christmas approaches, RVers across North America are looking forward to special time with friends and family. I've been out and about over the past few days crossing over a couple of interstates and see a lot of RVs moving about to get where they need to be for the holidays ahead.
Jennifer and I are at our Michigan home for the next week. We have two of our grown kids and a couple of grandkids who will spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with us. Then, on the 26th, we'll be heading down I-75 in our Roadtrek to Southwest Georgia to visit our third child and his family through the New Year.
After that, since we'll already be almost there, I'd really like to head off down to the the far southern parts of Florida and get some natural Vitamin D from the sun but, alas, with no reservations and all the State Parks booked solid for the past year, I think we'll end up just heading back to the Michigan cold.
Those our are plans. Rain here in Michigan is predicted for the next several days, melting the snow off the RV and the solar panels on our eTrek, allowing them to trickle charge the batteries. But we're hoping that we'll get some more snow next week for a White Christmas. But not too much, so the drive south on the day after won't be difficult.

A big part of having a roadtrek is the ability to be spontaneous. If you want to head south in the winter, seems that there would not be a place to stay without a lot of preplanning. How often does this happen.
How do you guys decorate your roadtreks for Christmas?
Like do you ever have a Christmas tree?
Can not afford an RV and never will be able to. So will work. Have a great and safe trip to all of you! My G-d יהוה continue to bless all of you! BH

After the Holidays we will be heading down to Dade City, Florida for two weeks to work as a RV Care-a-Vanner on a Habitat for Humanity build. This is something that I have talked about doing for a while and now we will finally do it. After that we are going to visit some friends & relatives on the East Coast, as well as visiting Everglades National Park and taking a drive down to Key West. On our way back North we will visit some of my wife’s girlfriends who are renting a beach house in Fort Myers Beach on the Gulf Coast. We have to be back in NY in early March for a Wedding, so on the way back we may stop to visit relatives in Georgia and North Carolina. We will see what else we can squeeze in along the way. Our goal, as always, is to visit every National Park in the U,S, In the event a State does not have a National Park we will visit some other type of National facility, such as a National Forest, Historic Site, Seashore, etc. We did State Parks during the Government Shutdown!
Before you give up Florida, try Bill Fredrickson RV park at Turkey Lake in Orlando. It is a county park & usually has a few sites with elec, etc. & many dry camping sites.

We will have 24 family members at our home for our traditional Christmas eve dinner just outside Chicago. Christmas day after a nice breakfast we will load the RV and take off for 10 days at Bentsen Palms RV resort in Mission, TX, just a short hop away from South Padre Island and the Mexican border. Heading back to the frozen Northland in mid January for a short stay and finishing some business, and then off to Florida in February for a few weeks.
Mike, we often spend January traveling all over FL. We never make reservations and have never have any problem finding a site, even in State Parks. We learned to show up early afternoon when they give their “no show” sites away. I think FL parks are busier in February. Even on the Keys we had no problem. Drove up to Boyd’s in Key West & stayed a week. Seems parks can always find a place for B Vans. Drove up to Ft Wilderness & they put us in a tent site till a FHU came available. We boondocked at the Port of Cape Canaveral & watched a shuttle launch. On the West coast we swam with manatee!
Go to Florida, have a ball!
Heading to Fort Lauderdale, Fl. on the 26th to see our son and grandson and granddaughter that we have not seen in a year. This will be our first trip in our 2002 Dodge 190 Popular that we have had only 2 months. We have only used it one night camping. The rest of the time it has been getting repairs done. Oh well , that’s what we got it for.

ReserveAmerica shows plenty of availability in Florida State Parks. I just Google search ReserveAmeric, qualify my search with Florida, ask for camping, plug in arrival date, length of stay (I prefer 3 days) and bingo, there is a long list of parks. You can select your campsite and book it online. Don’t be discouraged if the particular park you want doesn’t seem to have a space for the nights you want. Call them and ask. They only offer a portion of campsites on Reserve America, while others are booked by phone. You all wouldn’t like to park in our driveway. The State Parks are the beauty spots. Good luck. Come on down and visit. There is sunshine and seacoast enough to share!
Using this search I found 133 places with RV sites available to choose from arriving January. Some are national or state parks, others private like Koa. I know nothing of boondocking in Florida, though it may be here.
Merry Christmas to all! We are celebrating early in NYC with daughter and her new family :-). Heading to Fort Walton in Jan. then on to see more Florida.
My Trek was a big help to me when I went Christmas shopping. I was newly recovered from some sort of flu bug, so when I went shopping I did it in spurts. Parked in a lot, shopped, returned to Trek, had a cup of tea and laid down for a while. Repeat. Went home feeling great instead of being “Christmas shopping” worn out. I’m having a big crowd on Christmas Eve and I’m thinking about taking a jaunt in my Trek to Mt Hood on the 23rd – I need a dose of quiet nature and snowshoeing with my dog before the party begins!

Currently in Napa, CA but will be in Sacramento with friends for Christmas, then off to Palm Springs and San Diego and whereever else our ‘Blanche’ wants to go!! Merry Christmas to everyone and safe traveling!
I am traveling to Sedona and Grand Canyon with 21 people I have yet to meet. My transportation will be much larger than my RT, a 56 seat passenger motorcoach (It has a bathroom, no beds).
Sadly my RT will sit in the drive while I go and show off the sites and eat well. LOL.
