Sneak Peek: Hymer’s new production building in Cambridge, Ontario

The Erwin Hymer Group of North America, maker of the Roadtrek Class B motorhome brand, has opened a new production building and will soon be building a new line of  towable and super light weight travel trailers under the Hymer brand about seven miles from it's Kitchener, Ontario, Canada factory.

Other production facilities are also in the works as the company adds even other types to its RV lineup for North America later this and next year.

But the new building, shown above, is in Cambridge, Ontario and was formerly used by the company that made Blackberry mobile phones and digital devices.

Jennifer and I got a sneak peek tour ahead of the formal opening. Indeed, manufacturing and production equipment are still being moved into the building. The floors had just been done, new lighting installed and new wiring for the machines was in place. Our tour guide was Jim Hammill, the CEO, who says the new facility will start manufacturing the Hymer touring trailers by fall.

Already the company's marketing, accounting, research and development and executive offices have moved into the high tech building, which has undergone extensive renovations since being acquired by Hymer in January.

The new building is 245,000 square feet. By comparison, the Shirley Avenue Roadtrek factory in Kitchener is 131,000 square feet.

Hammill says Roadtreks will still be manufactured at the Shirley Avenue factory, although the Cambridge facility will dedicate several service bays that can be be used to do repair work on Roadtreks.
